The hibachi barbecue comes to us from Japan, it's a small barbecue ideal for those who enjoy grilled meat but don't have the space for a traditional barbecue. It's a portable barbecue in which you make a real fire. There are different models available in aluminum and iron and in different sizes. The hibachi barbecue has 2 cooking surfaces, which gives us many possibilities. Particularly as we saw on building a barbecue fire, it offers you the possibility of having 2 different heat levels. On one side you put a double layer of coals and on the other a single layer. This way you have a 2-level fire. One very hot side ideal for cooking meat and another to keep it warm or cook foods for longer.
The hibachi barbecue is specially designed to always have enough air to properly fuel the fire. The coals are therefore always stoked. It's an ideal portable barbecue to take everywhere with you.
hibachi barbecue - safety instructions
As with any portable barbecue, it is essential to ensure that the barbecue is placed on a flat surface and that it is well stabilized. Likewise, always keep a bottle of water nearby to prevent a possible fire. Also always plan for lamps so you can see what you're doing (especially if you're having a wild barbecue in the middle of the night... Before taking it away, let it cool down properly, and don't put it in the car while still hot. No need to remind you that cooling it too quickly by plunging it in water deteriorates it rapidly.
Cooking on the hibachi barbecue
Since the coals are very close to the food, cooking is very quick on the hibachi barbecue, which is why I recommend selecting foods that cook quickly such as steaks for example or skewers, not to mention vegetables such as peppers or mushrooms.
It's an ideal barbecue for campers looking for an efficient and not too bulky portable barbecue.
