How to choose your chili pepper seeds?

Choosing a chili pepper depends on several criteria:

Heat level (Scoville scale):

  - Mild (Jalapeño, Spanish Sweet Pepper: still hotter than a bell pepper)

  - Medium (Cayenne Pepper, Serrano)

  - Hot (Aji Amarillo, Thai Chili)

- Extreme (Carolina Reaper, Bhut Jolokia, Trinidad Scorpion)

Culinary use:

  - Fresh in salads with herbs (Long Green Jalapeño with thick texture)

  - Dried and ground into powder like tomatoes (Red Cayenne when ripe, Guajillo)

  - Homemade hot sauces (Orange or Red Habanero, Scorpion, Ghost Pepper)

Origin and rarity:

  - Traditional peppers (Cayenne, Jalapeño)

  - the hottest peppers that exist

  - Exotic varieties (Aji Charapita, Aji Amarillo, Naga Viper)

  - peppers originating from Asia, USA, Mexico, Peru, Spain, France and many other countries

Growing tips for your chili pepper seeds

It's important to carefully follow the given information, otherwise the seeds may not germinate:

1. Germination: sow indoors at 26–28°C (79–82°F), in light potting soil.

2. Light: place your plants near a sunny window or under grow lights.

3. Watering: regular but moderate, the chili pepper doesn't like excess water.

4. Repotting: transplant into pots or in the ground after the last frost.

5. Harvest: depending on the variety, 60 to 150 days after sowing.

If your plants are placed indoors, you'll need to manually pollinate the flowers by taking a clean cotton swab and placing it in the center of the flowers to exchange pollen. This step "replaces" insects and will allow you to have spicy fruits.

What is the hottest chili pepper variety?

The Carolina Reaper holds the official record with over 2.2 million Scoville units. Since September 2024, it has been dethroned by the Pepper X, but the seeds of the latter have not yet been put on sale.

What is the rarest chili pepper in the world?

The Aji Charapita, nicknamed "Peru's gold" or "the mother of all peppers," is one of the rarest and most expensive. This pepper with small yellow berries is an ancient chili that has never been crossbred by humans.

How long does it take to grow a chili pepper?

Between 3 and 5 months depending on the variety and growing conditions.

Can you grow chili peppers in pots?

Yes! Many varieties (Jalapeño, Thai Chili, Habanero) grow very well in pots on a balcony or indoors.

How to store your chili pepper seeds?

In a cool, dry place away from light, they can be stored for several years.
