The Satans Kiss pepper originates from Italy, where it is also called Baccio Ciliegia Piccante or Satana. It is often stuffed with mozzarella or anchovies and then grilled. The pepper is ripe when it is the size of a golf ball. Pepper season begins between January and March, for a harvest between August and September.

What equipment do I need to grow my peppers?

To optimize your results, we recommend equipping yourself with:

Satans Kiss pepper seeds.
An enclosed growing space such as a mini greenhouse.
Coconut coir, peat, or cotton pellets (to germinate the seeds).
Labels (to avoid mixing up your seedlings).
Potting soil (ideally a mix of 50% black peat and 50% blond peat), or special flowering potting soil, which will also do the job.
Fertilizer for peppers or tomatoes, or 5-5-10 fertilizer for those in the know.
A water sprayer or watering can.
Gloves (if you do not like touching soil).
Pots 7 or 8 cm in diameter at first, before using 10-liter pots or larger depending on the pepper when repotting.

How do I germinate my pepper seeds?

Growing peppers is a process that requires patience and some knowledge, but don't panic: we'll explain everything you need to know to germinate your pepper seeds!

Pepper seeds are generally sown at the beginning of the year, from January at the earliest to March for early spring. To do this, you will need the equipment listed above.

You then have 2 options:
Plant your seed directly in a pot filled with potting soil, about half a centimeter deep.
Place a seed on a coconut coir pellet or a piece of cotton.

In both cases, once the seed is in place, spray enough water to moisten the soil or cotton without soaking it, then place your coconut coir pellet or cotton in a container such as a mini greenhouse, which will retain heat and moisture while providing oxygen. If you use a flowerpot, you can simply stretch plastic wrap over it and make small holes with a toothpick to oxygenate the plant.

Ideally, maintain a constant temperature of 28 degrees. You can place your container behind a sunny window, on or near a radiator, or on a heating mat designed for this purpose.

Remember to air out your growing area from time to time to prevent fungi from appearing while keeping the soil moist. Once the first leaves appear, make sure your seedlings receive enough sunlight for 12 to 14 hours a day. Once the second set of leaves is well developed, you can repot them.

Once in a pot, keep your plant near a heat source and exposed to sunlight (ideally, try to filter the light to prevent heat stress).

After the last spring frosts, around mid-May, you can move your plant outdoors and plant your pepper in the ground if you wish, or leave it in a pot and place it on a balcony, a windowsill, or even along a wall, preferably on the south side.

How do I water my Satans Kiss pepper?

When watering your Satans Kiss pepper plant, be careful not to overwater; too much water can drown the plant and cause it to die. Simply let the soil dry out between waterings to prevent insect infestations and drowning the plant.

Once the plant is well developed (when it reaches around 30 centimeters tall), you can induce water stress by stopping watering for several days before resuming (be careful not to overuse this technique, as it would be a shame to let your pepper plant die).

How do I properly prepare for my harvest?

Once your pepper plant is in place, here are our tips for optimizing your future harvest:

When your pepper plant reaches 15 to 20 cm tall, you can pinch the top of the stem (without breaking it), which should help the plant grow bushier and produce a little more.

If one of your plants flowers early, remove the first flowers to prevent them from demanding too much energy from the plant.

If your pepper plant is outdoors, insects will pollinate it and it will then produce peppers. If your plant is indoors, you will need to do this manually: take a clean finger and gently rub it against each flower, moving from one to the next.

Feel free to use a bamboo stake or a rod to support your plant.

When should I harvest my Satans Kiss pepper?

To harvest your Satans Kiss pepper, as with other peppers, look at its color! This pepper is harvested once it is red.
