There are different ways to light your BBQ easily and quickly without using BBQ lighter fluid. This type of product is one of the main causes of accidents with BBQs, firstly they are dangerous and secondly they are produced from petroleum so they also pollute. So if you're in a hurry to light your BBQ, here's a small inventory of other systems sold in France that are inexpensive.
Weber chimney starter
There are surely other brands that sell this product, but I chose to present this one because Weber's reliability is well established. The principle is very simple - you place newspaper then your charcoal and light it, and in 10 minutes you have excellent embers for cooking your food. This chimney starter is very durable and easily withstands over a hundred uses. The advantage is being able to make as many embers as needed. Moreover, its price remains attractive as I found it online for just under 30€. So even if it's a bit more expensive upfront than BBQ lighter fluid, it's a more cost-effective investment in the long run.
Electric BBQ lighter
Very simple to use, you just need to put the charcoal in your BBQ and leave the electric BBQ lighter in the charcoal for a few minutes. It's a heating element that reaches very high temperatures and heats the charcoal enough to ignite it. The system is very effective for people in a hurry, however I would note one negative point: there can be a risk of burns if by chance a child or even an inattentive adult grabs the heating element while it's still hot. Not to mention that you must be near a power outlet.
Firelighter cubes
Although I don't appreciate this method which I find not very eco-friendly, firelighter cubes are sold everywhere. They are small white cubes that you place under the charcoal and light, they have the characteristic of burning very well and developing intense heat. The system is compact and can therefore be taken anywhere.
The Looftlighter
I can hear you asking, the loof what? It's an electric fire starter from Sweden, while most fire starters take 10 to 15 minutes to start a fire, this device does it in 1 minute (I should mention that I've never used it and haven't verified this information). It produces high-temperature hot air that ignites the charcoal, it's very simple to use - just build a pyramid of charcoal and hold the Looftlighter at the base of the pyramid for at least 1 minute. It costs around 70€, which doesn't make it the most economical option.
